Asterix for SNES

The game is based on the popular French comics series Asterix. It is 50 B.C., and the entire Gaul (today's France) is conquered by the Romans. Only one village still remains independent, thanks to the incredible powers of its two great warriors, Asterix and Obelix. In Asterix and the Great Rescue, they must first of all liberate the village Orvio and rescue their friend Dogmatix.

In Asterix and the Great Rescue, you can play as either Asterix or Obelix. You make your way through platform levels, fighting enemies by punching them, and jumping to access higher ares or to avoid falling down. There are also some items you can collect, such as bombs, with which you can overcome obstacles and advance in the game.

In Asterix and the Great Rescue you'll be able to ride a carpet controlling it like one of those side scrollingn shooter games, there's a boat sequence where you have leap from one boat and board a pirate ship and there's a race to room where you're on a cart and have to fight off Romans and dodge obstacles.

Its 50 B.C., your small town has been able to hold ground against enemy forces that are trying to take over. As Asterix, you are getting prepared to go on one of the most important journeys of your life. Elected officials have chosen you to embark on an adventure that will have you engaging in many fights against the all-powerful Caesar and his henchmen. Through this forty-seven level game, you will travel through many countries such s Egypt, the Alps, Acropolis, and the entire continent of Europe. Keep sharp, however, and look for coins, power ups, various potions, and special leaves that might help you fly. This European comic book favorite, published by the Infogames Group, is compatible for hours of gaming fun on Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems. Now the question that remains is; do you have the “Gaul” to save this city from the Romans?

[review added by reggie]

The graphics are by no means great, but they are fairly good. Asterix and Obelix look OK, as well as the rest of the sprites which consist of Roman soldiers, centurions as well as barbarians and animals. The backgrounds, although not outstanding, are well-drawn and colorful. All in all, the graphics are simply OK. Asterix and the Great Rescue music is fun to listen to while playing. There are various tracks for the whole game.

Fortunatelly there are some passwords.Level Password2 = INSULA3 = CONDOR4 = VIENNA5 = AVALON6 = DULCIS
