Gods

Based on the French comics series Asterix. Asterix and Obelix are great warriors of Gaul (today's France), that was conquered by the Roman Empire 50 B.C. Vercingetorix, the great leader of the Gauls, was defeated by Julius Caesar, and lost his shield to him. Now it's up to Asterix to recover this shield from the Romans!

In Asterix and the Power of the Gods, you guide Asterix through various levels. You can move on an isometric overview map to access different locations. You can jump, run, and defeat your enemies by spinning and hitting them. There is a variety of items to collect and obstacles to overcome.

Asterix and the Power of the Gods is unparalleled by any other platformer/action/rpg on the system and involves the player taking Asterix and Obelix on a quest to find the legendary shield of Vercingetorix, which has been stolen by a Roman centurion and is bound to have ended up in Rome. You can choose between the two superhuman Gauls for each level, each of them having unique powers and abilities. Another excellent feature of the gameplay is the ability to select your destination. On a map screen at the beginning, you get to choose which Roman camp to go to (or the village or forest) in your effort to try and find the shield. Without helping the gamer whatsoever, levels must be completed in some form of succession for certain events to take place and to progress in the game.

The storyline in Asterix and the Power of the Gods is fantastic. It is the type of story that drowns deep into a hole yet eventually builds itself back up. You'll know what I mean when you play the game. You meet all sorts of characters and travel throughout the lands of the ancient world. This game actually helped me in European History! A good portion of it is in Latin, which also helped me in school. But aside from that, the game exploits its unique setting to the fullest making it very fun to play.

Tore-a-dor! Just one of the classical music soundtrack, with tracks like Troika, Air and William Tell wonderfully reproduced in a sythesizer-type video game ambience brilliantly suited to the game. The sound effects are also very suited to the subject matter.

The graphics in Asterix and the Power of the Gods are simply excellent. The way everything's movements are realistically interpreted – water, snow, fire, and even the characters.
